Qatar condemns burning copy of Holy Qur’an in Denmark

Qatar on Saturday condemned in the strongest terms the burning of a copy of the Holy Qur’an in Denmark’s Copenhagen. “This heinous incident is an act of incitement and a serious provocation to the feelings of more than 2 billion Muslims in the world, especially in the holy month of Ramadan,” the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement. The Ministry warned that allowing repeated violations of the Holy Qur’an under the pretext of freedom of expression fuels hatred and violence, threatens the values of peaceful coexistence, and reveals abhorrent double standards. The statement renewed Qatar’s total rejection of all forms of hate speech based on belief, race or religion, and the involvement of sanctities in political disputes.
