UK voices concern over new Israeli settlement plan
Britain said Monday it is seriously concerned by Israel’s decision to approve the construction of 780 new settlement units across the occupied Palestinian territories, including areas deep in the West Bank, warning that it could threaten future peace negotiations.
Minister for Middle East and North Africa James Cleverly said settlements are illegal under international law and risk undermining the physical viability of the two-state solution. He called for an immediate halt to all settlement activity.
“We call for the construction of these in East Jerusalem and elsewhere in the West Bank to cease immediately,” he said.
