Providing safe environment for tourists utmost priority: gov’t

Amman, The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities Wednesday said that providing a safe environment for tourists is an utmost priority for the ministry, which was made possible through the ministry and tourist police and other bodies concerted effort.

The ministry has been following up on the details of the attack against a number of tourists and a tour guide in Jerash Governorate, as Secretary General of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, Imad Hijazin, visited the injured in the Jerash Governmental Hospital and checked on their health.

Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Majd Shweikeh, pointed out that the Ministry and its team, in partnership with the security authorities, are following up on the details of the incident to check on the health condition of the injured, stressing that the security and safety of tourists is a top priority for the ministry.

Earlier today in Jerash, a man stabbed four tourists, including three Mexican and a Swiss, and Jordanian citizens.

The Public Security Directorate (PSD) said that the assailant had been immediately arrested following the attack, pending investigation, adding that all the injured are still receiving medical treatment, and all of them are in moderate condition, except for a security officer and a Mexican tourist who are listed in critical conditions.
