Next Thursday deadline to public employees’ resignation to run for Parliament, says IEC spokesperson

The media spokesperson of the Independent Election Commission (IEC), Jihad Momani, said public officials and employees, wishing to run for the Nineteenth Parliament, must provide their resignations prior to September 10, next Thursday.

Officially submitted ahead of parliamentary elections, the resignation targets public employees, who assume posts in government entities, or government-owned companies, or partially state-controlled bodies, according to Momani.

In a press statement issued on Sunday, Momani announced the candidacy applications will not be officially approved unless a resignation letter is submitted by the public officials, employees.

As per the 10th article of the Election Law: “Candidacy to run for the House of Representatives begins 30 days preceding the date set for the elections and continues for a three-day period, and no candidacy application, submitted after this set period, is accepted.”
