Arab League Highlights Youth’s Role in Advancing Digital Culture

Cairo: Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Media and Communication Sector at the Arab League, Rashid Khattabi, emphasized that youth are a top priority for the League. Khattabi highlighted the crucial role of young people in promoting digital culture and raising awareness about the future of artificial intelligence (AI) and its impact on the labor market. He stressed the importance of preparing for the challenges presented by significant digital transformations across various sectors.

According to Jordan News Agency, Khattabi spoke at the 10th Arab Youth Media Forum, organized by Misr University for Science and Technology in Cairo. He discussed several Arab initiatives launched at the Arab Development Summit in Baghdad last May. These initiatives aim to strengthen digital cooperation and promote the sustainable use of AI while safeguarding cultural privacy, protecting data, and ensuring digital sovereignty.

Khattabi urged the adoption of the Arab Strategy for Artificial Intelligence and related initiatives, including the Arab Charter on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence and the Strategic Action Plan of the Council of Arab Ministers of Communications and Information. He also mentioned the Council of Arab Information Ministers' adoption of the Arab Strategy for Media and Information Literacy and its implementation plan, which are designed to enhance media education and digital awareness among young people.

Furthermore, Khattabi recommended the development of an ethical charter to regulate the Arab digital space. This charter would ensure responsible freedom while protecting the rights of others, as proposed by the Executive Office.
