Minister Highlights Ongoing Dialogue with US Over Tariff Imposition

Amman: Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply Yarub Qudah emphasized on Sunday that Jordan is actively engaged in discussions with the United States to address any issues arising from the recent implementation of customs duties.

According to Jordan News Agency, Qudah, during a meeting with industrial sector representatives, highlighted the robustness of the national economy, noting Jordan’s capability to tackle emerging challenges through market diversification and support for local industries. He clarified that the US decision is part of a global measure and is not specifically targeted at Jordan, reaffirming the strength of Jordanian-American relations and the continued validity of the Free Trade Agreement.

Qudah stressed that Jordan does not intend to impose duties on other countries, focusing instead on boosting exports. He mentioned that the government is ready with various strategies to mitigate potential impacts from the US decision, including enhanced support to the industrial sector.

The minister also spoke about efforts to diversify export markets, mentioning plans for an upcoming visit to an African country to discuss a preferential trade agreement. Discussions are also ongoing with Central Asian countries to explore similar possibilities.

Chairman of the Jordan and Amman Chambers of Industry, Fathi Jaghbeer, reiterated confidence in Jordan’s leadership and the industrial sector’s resilience. He stressed the importance of expanding the industry’s domestic market share and exploring new export destinations.

During the meeting, industrialists proposed solutions such as restructuring government support programs and utilizing diplomatic channels to counter the impact of the US decision.
