Jordan, Iraq eye closer cooperation on activation of UNSC resolution No. 1325
Amman, State Minister for Media Affairs, Chairperson of the Ministerial Committee for the Empowerment of Women, Jumana Ghneimat on Wednesday underlined the importance of stepping up coordination and cooperation between Jordan and Iraq to activate UN Security Council Resolution No. 1325 on women, security and peace.
Speaking at a joint Jordanian-Iraqi meeting designed to share knowledge and know-how on how to implement the UNSC resolution, Ghneimat indicated that Jordan had taken many steps to activate UNSC Resolution 1325 on women, security and peace, through the development of a government plan, in coordination with the National Committee for Women’s Affairs, and in cooperation with the donor community.
The minister noted out that the Ministerial Committee for Women’s Empowerment seeks to develop a national strategy for the empowerment of women for the years 2025 to 2020, in partnership with ministries, government institutions and civil society institutions, adding that the plan will be completed before the end of this year.
Thikra Alloush, Mayor of Baghdad and Chairperson of the Higher National Committee for the Advancement of Iraqi Women, said Iraq seeks to leverage Arab expertise to draw up a national women strategy to activate the resolution.
