House Finance Committee discusses draft budget bill with PM

Amman, Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament, Atif Tarawneh, Thursday, presided over a meeting of the legislature’s Finance Committee, prior to drafting its report on the draft law for the state budget and the budgets of independent government units.

The meeting, attended by head of the panel, MP Ahmad Safadi, Prime Minister, Hani Mulki, relevant lawmakers and officials, touched on issues pertaining to the budget draft bill and the panel’s report.

” There were many questions relating to the draft law, but we are well aware that we are able to organize priorities”, Tarawneh told the meeting.

Safadi, on his part, said the House and the government are on the same boat and they work closely to achieve a principle of collective self-reliance.

The committee, he said, discussed subsidy mechanisms for bread and other key commodities with the prime minister. Mulki, on his part, said that his government is pressing ahead with the economic and financial reform agenda. The government, Mulki noted, is eager to work jointly with the Lower House to address challenges and woes facing the Kingdom.

Moreover, members of the panel spoke about economic burdens and challenges facing the Kingdom and commended His Majesty King Abdullah II’s efforts to enhance Jordan’s economy and political stability.
