Health minister okays pharmacist-administered influenza vaccine

Minister of Health Sa’ed Jabir has given the go-ahead for pharmacies to administer seasonal influenza vaccine on-site, President of the Jordan Pharmacist Association (JPA) Zaid Kilani announced on Monday.

The approval is consistent with the Ministry of Health and the JPA’s efforts to improve health outcomes and primary healthcare, Kilani said in a statement, a copy of which was obtained by Petra.

He explained that the association will, in cooperation with the Jordan Food and Drug Administration, name the pharmacies that will be eligible for the on-site inoculation against seasonal flu, adding that the process will be subject to strict medical protocols.

Furthermore, Kilani said the move is part of a broader effort endorsed by the World Health Organization to fight antibiotic resistance caused by the overuse and misuse of antibiotics.
