Amman: The Royal Scientific Society (RSS) hosted a high-level Iraqi delegation representing government ministries, public institutions, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to explore opportunities for cooperation in energy, sustainability, and technology, while strengthening the exchange of expertise and capacity-building between the two countries.
According to Jordan News Agency, the delegation was welcomed by RSS Vice Presidents and directors of the RSS's technical centers and laboratories, where they were briefed on the organization's role in supporting development efforts through research, technical services, and specialized expertise.
During the visit, the RSS presented an overview of its work in areas including renewable energy, water, environmental protection, climate change, and technology, showcasing the services and research capabilities available through its centers and laboratories.
The visit program featured a briefing on the National Energy Research Center affiliated with the RSS, highlighting its technical and research services, followed by a field tour of the energy efficiency laboratories, where the delegation was introduced to the latest technologies and projects undertaken by the RSS to advance the transition toward sustainable energy practices.
The Iraqi delegation presented an overview of the energy and development sectors in Iraq, along with the challenges facing these fields, emphasizing the importance of cooperation with the RSS and benefiting from its experience in advancing development initiatives and exchanging knowledge between the two countries.
Discussions focused on potential cooperation in energy efficiency programs, engineering and technical fields, water and environmental solutions, the connection between energy, water, food, and the environment, as well as emerging technologies such as the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, and applied scientific research.
The two sides also discussed organizing an annual Jordanian-Iraqi conference on energy, technology, and sustainability, to be hosted alternately by the two countries, in addition to preparing a memorandum of understanding to establish a framework for future scientific and technical cooperation.
At the end of the visit, the Iraqi delegation praised the expertise and scientific capabilities of the RSS, expressing interest in expanding cooperation and benefiting from its experience in key sectors.
The RSS affirmed its commitment to enhancing regional partnerships, supporting knowledge exchange, and developing capacities to contribute to sustainable development and stronger institutional cooperation between Jordan and Iraq.
