Amman: The Jordanian National Commission for Women (JNFW) in Madaba has initiated the "My Sandwich Leftovers" project, focusing on transforming leftover bread from various sources into animal feed.
According to Jordan News Agency, the initiative aims to collect bread waste from schools, universities, restaurants, and hotels, processing it into chemical-free animal feed. This approach supports a circular economy and reduces organic waste by selling the processed feed to local poultry and livestock farmers.
Aljazieh Maayeh, JNFW's rapporteur in Madaba, highlighted the initiative's role in promoting sustainability, reducing food waste, and generating employment in the community. She also mentioned plans to expand the project to nearby towns.
MP Samer Azayda, who inaugurated the program, emphasized its economic and environmental advantages. He stated that converting food waste into affordable, locally produced feed helps ease financial burdens on farmers, decreases landfill use, and reduces organic emissions within the governorate.
The project is a collaborative effort involving the ministries of Environment, Education, and Social Development.
