Thursday Marks Start of Month of Safar, Grand Mufti Says

Amman: The Grand Mufti of the Kingdom, Ahmad Al-Hasanat, announced on Tuesday that Thursday, July 16, will mark the beginning of the Islamic lunar month of Safar for the Hijri year 1448.

According to Jordan News Agency, the announcement was made following the sighting of the moon, which is the traditional method for determining the start of a new month in the Islamic lunar calendar. Safar is the second month of the Islamic calendar and follows Muharram, which is one of the four sacred months in Islam. The identification of the new month is a significant event for Muslims, as it dictates the timing of various religious observances and events throughout the year.
