Umm Al-Qura University Awarded 6 Medals at Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions

Makkah: Umm Al-Qura University won six medals (silver and bronze) at this year’s Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions, held between April 17 and 21, 2024.

The Ministry of Education had a pavilion at this 49th session of the exhibition in which 26 Saudi universities took part.

The silver medal was awarded to the invention ‘Concrete barrier producing electrical energy from air currents of traffic on public roads’, by Dr. Raed Abdulrahman Shalwalah from the College of Engineering and Architecture. The following inventions received bronze medals: ‘Smart scoliosis spine brace’, by Dr. Ahmad Ali Basalah from the College of Engineering and Architecture; ‘Non-contact sanitizer dispenser glove’, by Dr. Rami Al-Fatni from the College of Engineering and Architecture; ‘Scheduling techniques for spatio-temporal environments’, by Dr. Emad Felemban from the College of Computing; ‘Smart eyewear to aid visually impaired and blind in communicating with deaf people’, by Dr. Ghada Al-Fatni from the Jamoum University C
ollege; ‘Mobile sanitary device for individuals with special needs and the elderly with limited mobility’, by Dr. Budour Hamed Al-Sayegh from the College of Education.

Vice President of the University for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Dr. Fahad bin Ahmed Al-Zahrani said that the university’s participation in the exhibition is part of its endeavor to stimulate and provide researchers and inventors with the opportunity to exchange expertise and collaborate in research, development, and innovation, and benefit from the transfer of technology and knowledge and thus contribute to the knowledge economy and achieving the sustainable development goals.
