Soldiers in Niger claimed to have removed President Mohamed Bazoum from power, hours after he was detained in the presidential palace.
The soldiers announced in a statement that the President is removed, Niger's borders are closed, a nationwide curfew declared, and all institutions are suspended.
On Wednesday, members of the presidential guard in Niger detained President Bazoum at the presidential residence. Several countries and international organizations expressed their condemnation of any attempt to seize power by force in Niger.
