AQABA: Jordan is set to host pivotal international and Arab meetings in the city of Aqaba this Saturday, focusing on the evolving situation in Syria. The gatherings will include foreign ministers from key Arab nations and international representatives, aiming to deliberate on supporting Syria’s political transition.
According to Jordan News Agency, the discussions will be attended by the Arab Ministerial Liaison Committee on Syria, which was established by the Arab League. The committee comprises foreign ministers from Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Lebanon, Egypt, and the Arab League’s Secretary-General. Additionally, representatives from the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, and the current president of the Arab Summit will be present.
The meetings will also see participation from prominent international figures, including the foreign ministers of the United States, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, the United Nations envoy to Syria, and representative
s from Turkey. These discussions are designed to align with Security Council Resolution 2254, which emphasizes the reconstruction of Syrian state institutions and the protection of Syria’s unity, sovereignty, and the rights of its citizens.
The primary objective of these meetings is to support a comprehensive political process led by Syrians, aiming to achieve a transitional process that satisfies the aspirations of the Syrian people and ensures the country’s stability and security.
