Gov’t Forum Evaluates Public Service and Administration Commission Achievements

Amman: The Government Communication Forum convened with media representatives on Wednesday to discuss the achievements and future aspirations of the Public Service and Administration Commission as it enters its second year.

According to Jordan News Agency, the commission’s chairman, Fayez Al-Nahar, detailed the commission’s evolving role, which now includes policy development, technical and advisory support, and oversight and compliance. He explained the commission’s establishment process, the rationale behind its role changes, and its work areas, which encompass leadership, human resources, government services, joint services, corporate culture, organizational structures, and institutional planning and development.

Al-Nahar highlighted the new public sector recruitment strategy, emphasizing its reliance on open advertisements. He noted that 70 percent of recruitments have been conducted through open adverts, with plans to phase out the existing competitive inventory by 2027 to promote fairness and equal opportunity.

The recruitment strategy now integrates proactive human resource planning to align with transformations in human resources management. Job openings are announced on official platforms and in daily newspapers to ensure transparency. Government entities then screen applications, identifying candidates based on job requirements. Competencies are assessed through tests and interviews, focusing on the necessary skills, knowledge, and behaviors.

Specialized committees conduct interviews, while the Competency Assessment Center provides tools to objectively evaluate applicants, enhancing selection accuracy. Zaid Nawaiseh, Secretary General of the Ministry of Government Communication, noted that the commission was established as part of the public sector modernization roadmap. Its outcomes align with Jordan’s political and economic modernization goals as the country approaches its second centennial.

The commission has initiated work on the human resources system and amendments to the civil service system, which Nawaiseh referred to as a “historic transformation” in Jordanian public administration.
