Arab Parliament Reaffirms Support for Jordan’s Stance Against Displacement

Cairo: The Arab Parliament, in a meeting held in Cairo, adopted a 17-point document backing Palestinian rights, with a key emphasis on supporting Jordan’s firm rejection of any plans to displace the Palestinian people from their land. The document, endorsed by Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament, Ahmad Safadi, along with Arab parliamentary leaders, also reaffirmed support for the historic Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and opposed all settlement expansion and any claims of sovereignty by the Israeli government over the city.

According to Jordan News Agency, following the session, Safadi expressed gratitude to Arab parliamentary representatives for their unwavering support of Jordan’s stance, led by His Majesty King Abdullah II, in rejecting displacement proposals and prioritizing Jordan’s national interests. He stressed that Jordan firmly opposes the forced relocation of Gaza’s residents and fully supports Egypt’s reconstruction plan, which ensures Gazans remain on their land.

Safadi emphasized that Arab parliamentary unity is crucial in defending Palestinian rights, urging coordinated efforts with global parliaments to advocate for justice in the Palestinian cause.

The document also backs Egypt’s rejection of displacement and supports Egypt and Qatar’s mediation efforts to maintain the Gaza ceasefire. It affirms unwavering support for Palestinian rights, including self-determination and the establishment of an independent state. The document categorically rejects Israeli plans to annex the occupied West Bank, declaring any such move a war crime, a crime against humanity, and an act of ethnic cleansing. It calls for intensified engagement with parliaments in countries that have suspended UNRWA funding and those that have recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital or relocated their embassies there, urging them to reverse these decisions.

During the Arab Parliamentary Conference, Safadi lauded the King’s steadfast leadership, declaring that Jordan remains united in rejecting forced displacement, resettlement, or any alternative homeland proposals. He referenced His Majesty’s recent talks with the U.S. President, stressing that Jordan is resolutely opposed to any displacement plans and is backed by unprecedented national unity and strong support from Arab leaders.

Looking ahead to the upcoming Arab Summit in Cairo, Safadi underscored that Arab leaders will stand together with a unified voice, affirming: “Gaza belongs to its people. There will be no displacement of its residents.”
