Irbid: Yarmouk University (YU) President Malek Alsharairi recently engaged with a delegation from the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) to discuss strategies for enhancing collaboration, particularly focusing on the implementation of a joint memorandum of understanding. The discussions emphasized training, academic, and professional development, alongside the "Sport for Development" initiative.
According to Jordan News Agency, Alsharairi highlighted the significance of the partnership with GIZ in bridging academic knowledge with practical experiences, aiming to enhance the skills of students, faculty, and administrative staff. He acknowledged GIZ's support, which has bolstered the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport Sciences through the provision of equipment and sports supplies, thereby facilitating improved training and applied education.
Alsharairi expressed the university's desire to broaden cooperation efforts, particularly in the areas of student qualification, field training, and the development of professional competencies. He also emphasized YU's commitment to strengthening ties to enhance training opportunities, secure accredited professional licenses, and promote youth involvement in the sports sector.
Lilly von Stackelberg, GIZ's Civil Peace Service (CPS) Program coordinator, commended the partnership with YU, advocating for the use of sports as a medium to engage young people, develop their skills, and foster communication, cooperation, and social cohesion.
Ahmed Bataineh, Dean of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport Sciences, outlined the partnership's major accomplishments, which include providing training opportunities for students, enhancing the capabilities of faculty and staff, and incorporating "Sport for Development" concepts into educational and training frameworks. He mentioned the preparation of a training manual titled "Sport for Development for Field Training Students for the 2026/2027 Academic Year" and the integration of an educational unit on social peace and values into the "Teaching Methods" course.
