Aqaba Camel Racing Festival Celebrates Bedouin Traditions and Local Crafts

Aqaba:The Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) hosted a heritage bazaar featuring approximately 20 local exhibitors as part of the sixth Jordan Camel Racing and Nabati Poetry Festival at the Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Camel Racing Track in Disi.

According to Jordan News Agency, the bazaar brought together local artisans, producers, and community organizations to showcase traditional handicrafts, locally made goods, food, and beverages. This event offered visitors a glimpse into Jordan's Bedouin heritage while supporting local businesses.

Thabet Nabulsi, ASEZA Commissioner for Tourism and Youth Affairs, noted that the bazaar was part of a broader program of cultural, heritage, educational, and recreational activities aimed at promoting Bedouin traditions and encouraging community involvement.

The festival also marked the opening of the Camel and Desert Heritage Museum, which features traditional tools and artifacts that illustrate desert life and the historical significance of camels in Jordanian society. Additionally, a scientific exhibition on camels was launched in collaboration with the National Agricultural Research Center and Fabco Veterinary Pharmaceuticals, focusing on scientific and veterinary aspects of camel care.

Local women's associations participated by preparing traditional food tastings and displaying products made by women and home-based businesses. The festival also included a dedicated entertainment area for children.

To ensure accessibility, ASEZA provided free bus transportation between Aqaba and Disi. The event's program featured a performance by a camel-mounted military unit in traditional uniforms, accompanied by Bedouin folk songs, and a musical evening with artist Imad Khawaldeh.

Nabulsi praised the contributions of the National Agricultural Research Center, Fabco, and Bin Marouf Company, emphasizing the importance of public-private partnerships in supporting heritage events and enhancing their appeal to visitors.
