Euro-Mediterranean Delegation Advances Digital Inclusion Project at BAU

Salt:A Euro-Mediterranean delegation visited Al-Balqa Applied University (BAU) to advance the EU-funded "Digital Life for All" project, which aims to launch digital skills training for underserved communities across several countries. The visit was part of the project's third international meeting, gathering representatives from academic and research institutions and civil society organizations from Tunisia, Turkey, Cyprus, Greece, Lebanon, and Jordan under the European Union's Mediterranean Basin Programme.

According to Jordan News Agency, BAU President Ahmad Fakhri Al-Ajlouni expressed the university's commitment to international cooperation and community development. The project focuses on equipping older adults, other adult learners, and persons with disabilities with the necessary skills to use digital technologies safely and independently, thereby enhancing their access to online services and opportunities.

Al-Ajlouni noted that BAU is spearheading the project's fourth work package, which involves establishing digital training centers and deploying mobile training units to reach remote and underserved communities. Project Director and Salt Technical College Dean Omar Arabiyat highlighted the collaboration between universities and civil society organizations to expand access to technology and provide practical digital skills training tailored to the needs of participants.

The meeting included workshops at Salt Technical College to evaluate technical and logistical readiness, as well as field visits to community organizations in central and southern Jordan. The delegation visited locations such as Al-Bireh Charity Association, the Beit Ira and Yarqa Complex, and the Nabataeans' Capital Association in Petra District, and engaged in coordination meetings at Disi Basin Municipality.

At Aqaba University College, discussions were held with representatives of associations serving communities from northern Jordan, Karak, and Tafileh on recruiting participants and identifying their training needs. The meeting concluded with the approval of a 90-day action plan, setting the stage for field activities and the implementation of digital training programs across the partner countries. The project seeks to enhance digital inclusion by making technology and practical training more accessible to communities facing barriers in the digital economy.
