Amman:A delegation from the International Organization for Migration's (IOM) Donor Advisory Group visited Jordan to evaluate various migration, border management, health, and humanitarian operations. This included activities at the Azraq refugee camp and the Jaber border crossing.
According to Jordan News Agency, the visit was part of a broader field mission that also covered Egypt and Sudan. The delegation engaged with Jordanian authorities, UN partners, academics, affected communities, and IOM teams to assess the ongoing programs.
At the Azraq camp, discussions with government officials, UN partners, and refugee representatives focused on the dynamics of voluntary return and the factors influencing refugees' decisions about their futures. Meanwhile, at the Jaber border crossing, the delegation met with Jordanian border-management authorities to review border procedures, humanitarian movements, and health activities, as well as the cooperation between national institutions and IOM.
The delegation also toured IOM's humanitarian logistics facilities in Amman. These facilities support emergency operations in the occupied Palestinian territory, including Gaza, and the visit included a review of IOM's supply-chain capacity and preparedness.
Through the IOM's Global Fund-supported Middle East Response program, mobile health teams provide tuberculosis screening and basic healthcare services to migrant workers and underserved groups across Jordan. The delegation observed these efforts firsthand.
The program also featured a discussion at the Jordan University of Science and Technology on topics such as climate change, resilience, health, and human mobility. This conversation highlighted the importance of research, evidence, and partnerships in addressing migration challenges.
IOM indicated that the visit served as an opportunity to assess operational results, discuss emerging priorities, and pinpoint areas where donor support and partnerships could enhance migration, resilience, and development responses. An exhibition showcased IOM's work in Jordan, covering operational programs, policy engagement, research, and technical assistance.
IOM Jordan Chief of Mission Fathima Ghazzali highlighted that the visit allowed for a comprehensive review of the organization's activities and the partnerships that support its migration-related efforts. She emphasized IOM's collaboration with the Government of Jordan, donors, UN partners, and communities to adapt to evolving migration realities and aid people across the country and region.
