Amman: The Jordan Armed Forces- Arab Army (JAF) has intensified its border security measures in light of escalating regional tensions, even before the onset of the conflict between the United States and Iran, as stated by Military Media Director Brigadier General Mustafa Heyari in a briefing.
According to Jordan News Agency, Brigadier General Heyari announced that all military units have been placed on high alert to maintain readiness against potential threats. During a joint press briefing with Public Security Directorate (PSD) spokesman Colonel Amer Sartawi, he emphasized the reinforcement of border guard units with necessary equipment and weapons to counter any threats to the Kingdom's security.
Following the outbreak of hostilities involving airstrikes by the United States and Israel against Iran, JAF has activated Jordanian air defense systems to intercept missiles and drones. Cooperation agreements with allied forces have been activated to enhance air defense capabilities. Heyari noted intensified monitoring of Jordanian airspace to safeguard the nation's skies.
Despite Jordan's neutral stance in the conflict, Iran targeted the Kingdom with 119 missiles and drones, as reported by Heyari. The Royal Jordanian Air Force successfully intercepted and destroyed 108 of these threats. The remaining attacks, which were not intercepted, emphasized the necessity of continued cooperation with allied nations.
Colonel Sartawi detailed the PSD's heightened state of readiness and implementation of emergency plans. The PSD has focused on public awareness campaigns to protect lives and property. Civil Defense teams have been on alert, managing incidents and securing areas affected by missile debris.
Sartawi reported 187 incidents of falling debris across various governorates, with 19 injuries, mostly minor. He emphasized the need for public vigilance and cooperation with security forces, urging citizens to report suspicious objects and rely on official information sources to counter misinformation.
