UN Coordinator: 60,000 Children Under Five in Gaza Malnourished as Israel Blocks Aid

Amman: United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process and Humanitarian Coordinator for Gaza, Sigrid Kaag, stated on Saturday that over 60,000 children under the age of five in the Gaza Strip are suffering from malnutrition.

According to Jordan News Agency, Kaag conveyed this information during her participation in the Antalya Diplomatic Forum, where she spoke to the Turkish Anadolu Agency. She highlighted that the humanitarian aid sent by the UN to Gaza during the ceasefire agreement was intended to reach people without any hindrance, and initially, the flow of aid continued smoothly under the agreement.

However, Kaag noted that since the second half of last month, the Israeli occupation forces have obstructed the entry of aid. This blockade has resulted in humanitarian workers facing shortages of essential equipment to execute their operations, and a depletion of fuel necessary for the operation of hospitals, further disrupting aid distribution.

Kaag emphasized that under international law, the occupation authority is obligated to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza, underscoring the critical need to deliver supplies promptly. She also remarked that the occupation army’s attacks on Gaza not only endanger civilians but also instill fear in humanitarian aid workers, most of whom are Palestinian civilians.
