Acting Secretary General of the Water Authority of Jordan (WAJ), Rami Abu Rawaq, on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with representatives of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to establish a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system for water resources in Ma'an Governorate at a value of $26 million. Speaking during the signing ceremony, Abu Rawaq said the memo would contribute to coordinating efforts to address various water challenges and enable the water sector to achieve plans aimed at improving service level, in accordance with the latest international regulations and standards. The MoU, he noted, also aims to ensure remote monitoring of water resources, which would provide decision makers with "clear and accurate" information to "quickly" take the necessary measures. Abu Rawaq said the memo will include development and modernization of SCADA system for all water-based production, delivery, storage and supply systems in southern Ma'an governorate, as well as related supply networks to ensure the "highest" level of water resource monitoring. Valuing JICA support, he stressed importance of "effective" partnership in the water sector by providing technical support and improving network infrastructure.
