Jerash: Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Lina Annab has announced the implementation of a comprehensive development plan for archaeological sites in Jerash Governorate, aiming to elevate the city’s global tourism profile and strengthen its appeal as a premier destination for both domestic and international visitors.
According to Jordan News Agency, during a field visit to the historic city on Saturday, Annab reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to advancing the tourism and heritage sectors in Jerash. The initiative seeks to leverage the city’s unique assets to stimulate the local economy and create job opportunities for the community.
MP Hamzeh Hawamdeh brought attention to key challenges facing the local tourism sector, with particular emphasis on issues affecting tour guides and shop owners in the traditional handicrafts market. He advocated for urgent support measures, including soft loans, exemptions from rent and license fees for 2025, and assistance in covering social security contributions.
During the visit, stakeholders reached an agreement to permit the phased repayment of dues owed by handicrafts and heritage shop owners. Requests for deferring payments until 2026 will be referred to the Prime Ministry, and relevant agencies will collaborate to establish a tailored loan scheme. The ministry also pledged to organize a forthcoming meeting between tour guides and ministry representatives to address their concerns.
