Amman: The Senate on Tuesday approved three draft laws as referred from the Lower House of Representatives in Tuesday’s session, headed by its president, Faisal Fayez and attended by the Cabinet members. The Senate returned two bills to its specialized committees for further examination, namely the General Statistics Law and the Agricultural Risk Reduction Fund Law.
According to Jordan News Agency, during its deliberations, the Senate passed an amended Jordanian National Building Law, as received from the House, with a recommendation of recruiting a specialist as the representative of the Public Security Directorate (PSD) in the Technical Committee for National Building Codes. Under the new amendments, a fine ranging from JD1,000 to JD1,500 is issued for practicing professions of land surveying, property appraisal, and real estate office work without a license. Other fines are set for violators of the law provisions and its ensuing regulations with an amount ranging from JD500 to JD1,500, and the penalty is doubled in the event of repeat violations.
Additionally, the Senate endorsed the amended Residency and Foreigners’ Affairs Law as sent from the House of Representatives. Doubling the penalty on foreign violators by JD45 for each overstay month, a JD3 fine is imposed daily for people who fail to obtain a temporary residence, exceed the residency period, or do not submit a request to renew the annual residence permit within a month of its expiration.
