The Palestinian Foreign Ministry Tuesday called on the international community and the administration of US President Joe Biden to provide protection for the Palestinian people and save Jerusalem from the Israeli occupation and its Judaization scheme.
The ministry said in a statement that outgoing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is stepping up the aggression against Jerusalem, its holy sites and people, which he uses as “a lifeline to bolster his rule, while encouraging (Jewish) settlers to carry on with and intensify their provocations and assaults.”
The ugly and heinous aggression by the Netanyahu government against participants in the Jerusalem Marathon is a further evidence of its complicity along with its various arms in the escalation and tension, it said.
It pointed out that halting the attacks against the people of Palestine should include the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem as one geographical unit that cannot be separated from the Gaza Strip, and as the land of the occupied State of Palestine.
The statement warned against the Netanyahu government’s judicial adviser’s decision not to interfere in the forced eviction of Arab families from their homes in Jerusalem’s Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, and to leave the decision to the Supreme Court, which, in effect, puts 28 families with more than 500 individuals at risk of displacement.
All the colonial and settlement policies of the occupation authority “are null and illegitimate and amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity for which Israel is to be held accountable under international law, it said, vowing that such measures will not break the will and steadfastness of the Palestinian people and Jerusalemites in defending their city, dignity and political rights.
