Amman: President of the Syndicate of Fuel (SOF), Nahar Seidat, clarified that the circulating claims regarding the SOF’s stance on composite (plastic) gas cylinders are inaccurate and lack any official or reliable source. He emphasized that the SOF has not issued any official statement indicating the failure of these cylinders in Saudi Arabia since the adoption of the technical standard for composite gas cylinders. He explained that each country has its own standards based on environmental conditions and technical requirements, rather than unverified claims.
According to Jordan News Agency, Seidat also pointed out that Saudi Arabia has been using these cylinders for several years. In a statement on Sunday, the syndicate’s chief stressed that any new product entering the Jordanian market undergoes strict regulatory procedures and advanced technical inspections to ensure compliance with the highest safety and quality standards, both locally and internationally.
Seidat commended the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC) for responding to the SOF’s demands by ensuring the exclusive rights of licensed storage facilities, gas distribution centers, and approved distributors to handle the storage, transportation, and distribution of composite gas cylinders. He added that investment opportunities in this sector should be limited to filling operations and cylinder imports.
Seidat reassured that all licensed storage and distribution facilities in Jordan are fully prepared to handle any officially approved gas cylinders that meet Jordanian technical standards and international specifications. He urged the public and media to verify information before dissemination and avoid spreading rumors or inaccurate news that could cause unnecessary confusion. He reiterated the SOF’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of Jordanian citizens while maintaining high-quality and efficient fuel products in the market.
