Media Outlets Told to Verify Health Claims in Advertisements

Amman: The Jordan Media Commission has instructed print and electronic publications, radio and television broadcasters, and accredited foreign media organizations in Jordan not to publish advertisements containing nutritional or health claims without prior approval from the Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA).

According to Jordan News Agency, the directive, which is based on a letter from the JFDA, covers claims such as "under medical or pharmaceutical supervision" and products advertised as burning or reducing body fat. Media outlets are required to ensure that any advertised products have received the JFDA's approval for licensing and advertising purposes before publishing such material.

The JFDA stated that the measure aims to protect the health and safety of citizens and residents in Jordan.
