Nagoya: The Jordan Olympic Committee has selected national karate team players Joud al-Dhroos and Abdulrahman al-Masatfeh to carry the Jordanian flag at the 20th Asian Games' opening ceremony in Nagoya, Japan, on Sept. 19.
According to Jordan News Agency, Jordan is fielding a squad of about 70 athletes competing across 16 sports: gymnastics, triathlon, karate, cycling, weightlifting, equestrian, jiu-jitsu, basketball, fencing, tennis, boxing, E-sports, taekwondo, mixed martial arts, squash, and climbing.
Competition at the Games already began on Sept. 10 with basketball matches, ahead of the formal opening. The opening ceremony will take place at Nagoya City, Paloma Mizuho Stadium on Saturday, at noon, Amman time.
Jordan has taken part in the Asian Games since the 1986 Seoul edition, amassing 54 medals over nine previous appearances, including five gold, 21 silver, and 28 bronze.
