Media minister receives OJA delegation in Petra

Minister of State for Media Affairs, Faisal Shboul, met Tuesday with an Omani Journalists Association (OJA) delegation at the Jordan News Agency (Petra).

The visit comes as part of a training program implemented by the Jordanian Media Code Academy, in cooperation with the OJA, and includes holding courses on professional ethics and media legislation, citizen journalism, mobile journalism, and preparation for talk shows, in addition to visits to media institutions.

In the meeting, attended by Petra’s Director General, Fayeq Hijazin and head of the Omani delegation and member of the OJA’s Board of Directors, Abdullah Al-Jardani, Shboul lauded the deep-rooted Jordanian-Omani ties led by the two countries’ leaderships.

Shboul, who is also the government spokesperson, said the Kingdom and the Sultanate see eye-to-eye on various Arab and regional issues, and stressed the importance of the ongoing coordination and joint cooperation between the two countries in various fields.

Shboul also affirmed Jordan’s keenness to continue the work of the 11th session of the Jordanian-Omani Joint Committee, which wasn’t held last year due to Covid pandemic, adding that he was looking forward to strengthening media cooperation between media institutions in the two countries.

“The government is set to launch a program to train and build the capacities of media spokespersons in ministries and government institutions, in partnership with the Jordan Media Institute,” Shboul announced, indicating that this training will be institutional and continuous “and once this experience matures, we will contact our Omani brothers to generalize and leverage this experience.”

In turn, Al-Jardani said that the visit to Petra comes within the training program carried out by the OJA for 16 Omani media professionals representing Omani media institutions.

He underscored the importance of the visit, which enhances the existing relations between the two countries, which were established by the two countries’ leaderships.

Al-Jardani referred to the importance of the Jordanian-Omani Joint Committee’s work, which enhances cooperation and coordination between the two countries in various fields, especially media and culture spheres.

Hijazin, in turn, voiced Petra’s pride in receiving delegations of Arab journalists, underlining the importance of exchanging expertise and boosting cooperation between the Jordan News Agency and Arab news agencies, in a manner that serves the Arab media landscape.

On the sidelines of the meeting, the Omani delegation toured editorial departments of the agency and was briefed on the mechanism of journalistic work.

Also, Hijazin briefed the delegation on Petra’s role a key source of news for local and Arab media outlets, in addition to hosting training courses through its training center for public employees and students of journalism and media schools in the Kingdom.

He noted that Petra hosts the training center of the Federation of Arab News Agencies (FANA), and is keen on exchanging news and other journalistic forms between Arab news agencies, thus contributing to raising the level and performance of Arab media.
