Malaysian Embassy celebrates National Day

The Malaysian Embassy to Jordan on Wednesday celebrated Malaysia National Day, in the presence of Minister of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs and Holy Places, Mohammad Khalayleh.

Addressing the ceremony, Chargé d’Affairs at the Malaysian Embassy, Wan Faizatul Afzan Ismayatim, expressed “deepest sympathy, solidarity and condolences to the Government of Jordan for the recent incident of building collapse in Jabal Alwabdeh. We would also like to wish full and speedy recovery for the injuries.”

On her country’s National day, she said: “It is a time to remember the struggles and sacrifices of the past, and look towards the future. This year, the theme for the National Day and Malaysia Day is “Malaysian Family Strong Together.”

“The theme refers to people of Malaysia being united and living in peace, feeling included and thankful, as well as achieving and maintaining cohesiveness and strength together. The logo symbolised Malaysia’s infrastructure, communication system and digitalisation progress. The theme and logo are highly relevant as Malaysia moving forward after two years of trials and tribulations caused by COVID–19,” Ismayatim said.

The diplomat said Malaysia and Jordan established their diplomatic relations in 1965. Malaysia established its Embassy in Amman in 1995 and Jordan established its Embassy in Kuala Lumpur in 1997.

She added that both Malaysia and Jordan are close partners, and have cooperated in many areas of mutual interest at the international platforms under the auspices of the United Nations (UN), Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). This relationship continues to grow from strength to strength.

Joint economic ties are robust. Jordan is one of Malaysia’s important trade and economic partners in the West Asia region, and is Malaysia’s 11th largest trading partner among the West Asian countries, she pointed out.

For the period of January to October 2021, despite the disruptions caused by COVID–19, the total trade between Malaysia and Jordan amounted to 222.7 million US dollars, an increased by 7.3 percent from the previous year. It is expected that total trade between the two countries will continue to grow as countries are reopening their international borders, she added.
