Amman: The Ministry of Environment launched a comprehensive nationwide cleanup campaign across governorates on Sunday to mark World Environment Day.
According to Jordan News Agency, the campaign is part of the executive program for the national cleanliness and anti-littering strategy for 2026-2027, drawing wide participation from official institutions, municipalities, environmental associations, voluntary initiatives, and local community organizations.
The cleanup operations targeted major natural, tourist, and forested sites across the country, including the Umm Qantarah forests in Jerash, the Jubilee forest in Karak, the vicinity of the Dhuleil Industrial Complex, and the Ma'in-Rally Road area in Madaba.
Other targeted locations included the Al-Qarn tourist area in the Northern Jordan Valley, the Zai area in Balqa, forests surrounding the Ajloun University College, the Jordanian Hamma-Mustanbat road in Bani Kinanah, and the Lubeirah-Al-Ayn al-Bayda area in Tafileh. Operations also covered the Marhab forests and Tal Al-Qamar forest in Birayn, the Dajania woods in Rehab, the Faysaliyah area in Muwaqqar, and the Ma'an Model Park.
The campaign was executed in partnership with the Ministry of Interior through local governors and administrative rulers, alongside the Ministry of Local Administration, municipalities, and joint services councils.
Other participating entities included the ministries of agriculture, tourism, youth, culture, education, Islamic affairs, health, and public works, alongside academic institutions and voluntary community boards.
The Public Security Directorate also heavily backed the initiative through the Royal Department for Environmental Protection, community police directorates, tourist police, local security centers, and the Civil Defense Directorate.
The Ministry of Environment said the campaign aligns with ongoing efforts to raise environmental awareness, promote positive civic behavior, and entrench community responsibility regarding public cleanliness. The initiative specifically targets littering in natural, tourist, and forested sites, which constitute a vital part of Jordan's environmental and national heritage.
The ministry emphasized that celebrating World Environment Day serves as an important milestone to unify national efforts and foster cooperation between the public, private, and civil sectors, driving the goals of the national anti-littering strategy and embedding a sustainable environmental culture to protect Jordan's natural resources.
