Jordan and Thailand Explore Collaborative Opportunities in Science and Innovation

Amman: Secretary-General of the Higher Council for Science and Technology (HCST) Mashhour Rifai engaged in discussions with Thai Ambassador Jirapon Jirampaikool to explore avenues for cooperation in scientific research, technology, and innovation.

According to Jordan News Agency, Rifai emphasized the "deep-rooted" relations between Jordan and Thailand and expressed the council's eagerness to forge connections with similar institutions in Thailand. The aim is to exchange expertise and best scientific practices while leveraging international experience in managing innovation.

Rifai highlighted the council's significant programs, initiatives, and activities, noting that the Scientific Research and Innovation Support Fund now operates under the HCST. This development is expected to enhance institutional integration and foster the growth of the national research and innovation ecosystem. Special emphasis is placed on establishing effective partnerships with both local and international industrial sectors.

Rifai also proposed developing mechanisms for technology transfer and commercialization of scientific research outputs. These would include licensing agreements, business incubators, and joint ventures with the industrial sector, aimed at transforming innovation into valuable economic outputs.

In response, Ambassador Jirampaikool underscored the importance of coordination to initiate constructive cooperation, especially as Jordan and Thailand celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations. She highlighted the significance of linking the HCST with Thai institutions that have similar objectives and operational methods, while also strengthening ties among universities, research centers, and the industrial sector, particularly in modern technologies.

Jirampaikool expressed keen interest in the Red Sea Conference, set to be organized by the HCST early next year. The National Center for Research and Development, an affiliated center of the HCST, is tasked with coordinating and preparing this event.

The discussions also covered mechanisms to finance joint research projects and explored potential cooperation in areas of mutual interest. Furthermore, both parties announced the possibility of drafting a memorandum of understanding to formalize cooperation and establish a long-term strategic partnership between the HCST and counterpart institutions in Thailand.
