Cold Wave Continues in Jordan as Temperatures Drop Below Freezing

Amman: Several regions in Jordan recorded subzero surface temperatures on Wednesday morning, reflecting the ongoing impact of the polar air mass that has affected the country since the beginning of the week, according to Director General of the Meteorological Department (JMD) Raed Khattab. Khattab stated that the sharp temperature drop has led to the formation of frost and ice in multiple areas.

According to Jordan News Agency, the lowest recorded temperatures were observed in Qatraneh at -5.6°C, followed closely by Shoubak at -5.5°C, and Ras Munif at -5°C. Other notable temperature readings include Ma’an at -4.2°C, and both Queen Alia International Airport and Marka Airport, along with Zarqa, recorded at -4°C. Tafila experienced temperatures of -3°C, Mafraq recorded -2.4°C, and Salt saw -2.2°C. Wadi Al-Rayyan in the Northern Jordan Valley reported -1.8°C, while Jafr and Safawi experienced -1°C and -0.5°C, respectively.

The JMD has issued warnings regarding the potential for frost and ice formation during late night and early morning hours on Thursday, particularly in high-altitude areas, parts of the Badia and plains, as well as sections of the northern Jordan Valley. Citizens are advised to exercise caution in these conditions.
