LH Approves Amendments to 2026 Professional Work Regulation Law

Amman: The Lower House (LH) of Representatives, led by Speaker Mazen Qadi, has approved the Senate's amendments to the draft Professional Work Regulation Law of 2026 by a majority vote during a session attended by Cabinet members.

According to Jordan News Agency, the Senate had previously returned the draft law to the Lower House on August 18 after making amendments to Articles 8 and 16. These changes allow individuals with prior experience obtained before the law's enactment to receive a professional license without the need for exams, following criteria outlined in forthcoming regulations.

The Senate also made a significant amendment by substituting "experience" for a "practice license" for those with experience documents certified by official bodies in other countries, enabling them to obtain a professional license. Additionally, the Senate adjusted the penalties for practicing a profession without a license, reducing the fines to a range of JD50-200. In contrast, business owners employing unlicensed workers face fines between JD200-500.

The law stipulates that training services violating its provisions will be suspended, while more severe penalties under other legislation may still apply. Initially, the Lower House passed the bill with a clause imposing fines of JD200-1000 on individuals breaching the law and the mandatory removal of any irregularities.
