Cairo Extraordinary Arab Summit Concludes with Strong Stance on Palestinian Rights

Cairo: The final statement of the extraordinary Arab Summit held in Cairo underlined the necessity of respecting the role of the Jordanian Awqaf Administration in Jerusalem and the Affairs of Al-Aqsa Mosque as the sole authority responsible for managing all affairs of Al-Aqsa Mosque within the framework of the Hashemite Custodianship over holy sites.

According to Jordan News Agency, the statement also praised the efforts of Jordan and Egypt in addressing the risks of displacement and the liquidation of the Palestinian cause. It firmly rejected any form of displacement of the Palestinian people, labeling such actions as violations of international law, crimes against humanity, and ethnic cleansing. The statement further condemned policies of starvation and scorched earth tactics aimed at forcing Palestinians from their land.

The declaration warned that any criminal attempts to displace Palestinians or annex parts of the occupied territories would lead to increased conflict in the region, threatening peace prospects and destabilizing the Middle East. It also recognized the plan presented by Egypt for the recovery and reconstruction of Gaza as a comprehensive Arab initiative, urging the international community to provide support.

Further, the statement emphasized readiness to engage with the U.S. administration and other international partners to resume peace negotiations for a comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, based on the two-state solution. The leaders called for an international conference to establish a Palestinian state as per the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The statement also highlighted the importance of the role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and condemned Israeli legislative actions against it. It called for international support for UNRWA’s continued operations and stressed the need for international legal actions against Israel’s violations.

In addition, the leaders affirmed ongoing efforts for Palestinian reform and institution-building to meet the aspirations of the Palestinian people. They also called for a de-escalation of tensions, especially during the holy month of Ramadan, and reiterated support for the two-state solution through international collaboration.

The summit concluded with a call for international peacekeeping forces in the region and expressed solidarity with Lebanon and Syria against Israeli aggression, urging adherence to international laws and resolutions.
