Authorities Crack Down on Water Theft Near Amman

Amman:During a security campaign, the Ministry of Water and Irrigation/Water Authority of Jordan (WAJ), in cooperation with the Public Security Directorate, detected water theft violations in the Naour and Umm Al-Amd areas, south of Amman.

According to Jordan News Agency, the violations involved two pipelines with a diameter of one inch. One of these pipelines was used to supply and sell water to tankers in the Naour district, while the other provided water to a pond and a large nursery serving homes in the Umm Al-Amd area.

Furthermore, an illegal drilling rig was seized while digging an unauthorized well in the Safawi area of the Mafraq governorate. This action is part of WAJ's ongoing efforts, in collaboration with relevant authorities, to increase control over water resources across the Kingdom.

The ministry's teams have disconnected the illegal mains, rectified the situation, and seized the drilling rig, transferring it to the authority's central warehouses. Official reports have been filed, paving the way for further investigations and the enforcement of legal penalties against those responsible for the violations.
