Arab League Calls on Israel for Ceasefire and Withdrawal from Lebanon

Cairo: The Arab League on Tuesday emphasized the importance of implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and called on Israel to commit to a ceasefire and withdraw from all Lebanese territory.

According to Jordan News Agency, Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit reaffirmed his support for the Lebanese government during a meeting in Cairo with Lebanon’s Foreign Minister, Abdallah Bou Habib. He praised the government’s efforts to restore stability and ensure that arms remain solely in the hands of the state.

Gamal Roshdy, the secretary-general’s spokesperson, stated that the talks also covered broader regional developments. These discussions come ahead of the Arab League Council’s ministerial meeting, which is set to take place in Cairo on Wednesday.
