APN Supports Agricultural and Water Projects in Northern Jordan Valley

Amman: Arab Group for the Protection of Nature (APN) has completed a project to support farmers in the Northern Jordan Valley District by installing plastic sheets in irrigation ponds at their respective farms.

According to Jordan News Agency, the project, which benefited 17 farmers, is part of the APN’s Economic Empowerment and Food and Water Security Enhancement Program, implemented with support from the International Islamic Charity Organization (IICO). In remarks to “Petra” Wednesday, the project supervisor, Lamia Abu Sahyoun, said the initiative aims to support target farmers in harvesting water and reducing losses to serve their agricultural units, which would contribute to increased production and achieve food security.

Abu Sahyoun noted the project distributed over 16,000 fruit trees over an area of 320 dunams last February, benefiting 76 farmers in the region. Additionally, she announced the implementation of irrigation networks for an area of 40 dunams, benefiting 8 farmers.

Underlining the importance of the projects under the follow-up of the public agricultural workers, she said this effort is part of the Ministry of Agriculture’s vision to advance the Kingdom’s agricultural sector in line with national economic and social development goals.
