WHO calls for opening humanitarian corridor to Gaza

The World Health Organization (WTO) called on Tuesday for opening a humanitarian corridor to the besieged Gaza Strip to bring in medicine as Israeli air strikes continued for the fourth day in a row, leaving hundreds dead and thousands injured.

Opening a humanitarian corridor is necessary to provide basic medical supplies to the population, WHO spokesman Tarik Jasarevic said during a press briefing in Geneva, adding that the organization is holding talks with various partners to bring medical aid into the Gaza Strip.

The WTO pointed out that medical supplies in Gaza had run out, confirming 13 attacks on health facilities there since the start of Israeli attacks on Saturday, according to the UN News website.

In a regional meeting of the organization, WTO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus discussed the possibility of transporting basic goods to Gaza in order to provide health care and ensure hospitals are functioning.
