Amman:Minister of Government Communication and Government Spokesperson Mohammad Momani has announced a significant increase in the national service program's annual intake, raising the number of conscripts from 6,000 to 9,000. An electronic selection draw for the second cohort is scheduled for Sunday, November 8.
According to Jordan News Agency, the expansion follows directives from His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II to gradually enhance participation in the national service program. The phased growth aims to ensure continuity, training quality, and effectiveness while fostering discipline and national belonging among young Jordanians.
The second cohort will consist of 9,000 conscripts divided into three training cycles annually, with each cycle accommodating 3,000 participants. This expansion builds on the success of the first cohort, offering more young Jordanians the opportunity to benefit from the program without compromising training standards.
The electronic draw for the 55th national service intake will take place at noon on November 8, 2026, at the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship. The event will be broadcast live on Jordan Television to ensure transparency. Eligible participants are Jordanian males born in 2008, selected through a neutral statistical sampling method designed to ensure fairness and equal opportunity.
Conscripts will be notified through text messages, the Sanad app, and the national service platform. Failure to check the selection status or comply with summonses does not exempt individuals from legal responsibilities. Momani emphasized the importance of digital tools in simplifying procedures and improving access to information.
Brig. Gen. Mohammad Mheidat, Director of Military Media for the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army, confirmed the readiness to accommodate the expanded intake, with plans to maintain training quality and provide a suitable environment. The JAF has developed logistical and administrative plans based on experience gained from the first cohort.
Mheidat clarified that previous deferments are invalid upon selection, and new applications must be submitted through the national service platform under legal conditions. Travel restrictions apply to conscripts during the 45 days before their training cycle, with penalties for noncompliance potentially exceeding the duration of the three-month service program.
The national service program comprises military training and education components, with conscripts receiving a monthly allowance of JD100. Participants remain in the reserve for five years post-service, or until age 45. The JAF is committed to program development, drawing on the first year's experience.
