Food Security and Supply Chain Stability Prioritized by Government, Says Industry Minister

Amman:Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply, Yousef Qudah, emphasized that safeguarding national food security and ensuring the continuity of supply chains remain top government priorities. This focus aims to secure citizens' needs under all circumstances by maintaining a robust reserve of essential commodities and food products.

According to Jordan News Agency, during a meeting with representatives of the Kingdom's food trade sector, Qudah highlighted the importance of enhancing strategic food reserves and ensuring adequate availability in local markets, particularly in preparation for the holy month of Ramadan. He stressed the need for maintaining price stability to meet citizens' needs effectively.

Qudah also noted the importance of the public-private partnership in maintaining market stability and ensuring the provision of essential goods at reasonable and fair prices. He emphasized ongoing coordination with Jordan's chambers of commerce and private sector representatives to monitor regional and international developments affecting imports and shipping, and to address obstacles that may impede the smooth flow of supplies.

Wael Shqeirat, head of the interim committee of Jordan Chamber of Commerce, and Mohammad Abu Odeh, head of the interim committee for Amman Chamber of Commerce, advocated for continued cooperation and coordination with the ministry. They called for streamlining import procedures and overcoming challenges faced by traders to ensure a steady flow of food products, maintain market stability, and guarantee the availability of goods for citizens.
