Jordan Excels in Sound Money, Ranks 50th in Economic Freedom Index

Accra:In the Economic Freedom of the World 2026 Annual Report, Jordan has been recognized for its remarkable performance, achieving 3rd place globally in the Sound Money category and ranking 50th overall among 165 countries and territories. The report, released by Canada's Fraser Institute in collaboration with the Cato Institute, highlights Jordan’s economic resilience based on 2024 data.

According to Jordan News Agency, the report awarded Jordan an overall score of 7.38 out of 10, emphasizing the stability of its monetary framework, regulatory environment, and openness to international trade. In the Sound Money pillar, Jordan scored an impressive 9.59 out of 10, outperformed only by Switzerland and Finland. This category assesses factors such as price stability, inflation rate control, money supply growth management, and the freedom to maintain foreign currency accounts.

In terms of regulation, Jordan ranked 25th globally with a score of 7.38, reflecting efficient administrative procedures in credit markets, labor regulations, and business licensing. The country also excelled in International Trade Freedom, scoring 8.13 and ranking 52nd globally, due to low tariff barriers and flexible capital movement.

Banking expert Dr. Mohsen Abu Awad commented on Jordan's 9.59 score in Sound Money, attributing it to the robust oversight by the Central Bank of Jordan. He noted that monetary stability reduces price uncertainty and currency risk, promoting long-term capital investment. However, Dr. Abu Awad stressed the need for fiscal and legislative reforms to enhance liquidity flow into productive investments and job creation.

Financial expert Dr. Mohammad Al-Hadab Al-Sarhan pointed out that Jordan's foreign currency reserves reached USD 28.47 billion by September 2026, offering a buffer against supply-chain disruptions. He highlighted that stable currency pegs and predictable pricing lower systemic risks, enhancing Jordan's appeal as a secure investment destination.
