Ministers Address Transport Links and Congestion at Queen Alia Airport

Amman:Ministers convened on Monday to discuss strategies for enhancing transport links to Queen Alia International Airport and alleviating traffic congestion between Amman and various governorates.

According to Jordan News Agency, the meeting at the Transport Ministry was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Local Administration Walid Masri, Transport and Labor Minister Nidal Qatamin, and Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Minister Muhammad Al-Khalayleh. They examined proposals to connect the airport with Amman via Mahatta station and extend links to Amman Civil Airport.

The officials also evaluated transport solutions for key routes into the capital and connections to the New Amra city. A significant focus was placed on promoting the park-and-ride concept, which aims to relocate mass parking from central urban areas to peripheral zones, encouraging commuters to switch to public transport for the remainder of their journey. This approach is expected to reduce vehicle numbers in congested areas and relieve traffic pressures.

The ministers also considered utilizing land owned by the Awqaf Ministry near the airport for projects that support the transport system, fostering integration between urban planning and infrastructure projects. They emphasized the importance of developing feasible, integrated plans and enhancing coordination among relevant bodies to achieve a more advanced transport system.
