Amman: The Ministry of Environment has successfully distributed 435 metal bins with a capacity of 1100 liters each across the southern governorates of Ma'an and Aqaba, as well as the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA), in a bid to support local municipalities and institutions.
According to Jordan News Agency, this initiative is part of the ministry's efforts to enhance infrastructure in public spaces, parks, tourist sites, public gardens, and universities. It aims to improve public cleanliness and curb littering practices. This action aligns with the ministry's executive program for the Cleanliness and Anti-Littering Strategy (2026-2027), focusing on bolstering infrastructure and cleanliness nationwide.
In Ma'an, 385 containers were allocated to several municipalities, Al-Hussein Bin Talal University, and PDTRA. In Aqaba, the initiative supported two municipalities, with an additional 15 metal containers provided to the Zara Ma'in area to bolster cleanliness at tourist and service sites. This distribution was carried out as part of a strategic field plan developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Administration and partner organizations, targeting regions with the highest need and visitor traffic.
The ministry emphasized that this effort is part of an ongoing plan to develop the Kingdom's sanitation infrastructure. It aims to reduce indiscriminate waste disposal and enhance environmental service levels, urging citizens to use designated waste containers and maintain cleanliness in public, tourist, and university sites. The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to expanding and improving sanitation infrastructure nationwide.
