Authorities Declare Maximum Emergency Ahead of Expected Extreme Weather Conditions

Amman: The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) declared a state of maximum emergency effective Wednesday morning in preparation for a weather depression forecast to impact the Kingdom.

According to Jordan News Agency, GAM announced that field teams are fully prepared to respond to reports received through the Tla'a Al Ali Emergency Operations Room. The municipality urged Jordanians to report any incidents via the unified call centre at 102 or 117180.

GAM advised the public to exercise caution, avoid valleys and low-lying areas, and refrain from littering, as waste can block stormwater drainage systems. The municipality also emphasized the importance of ensuring that submersible pumps in basements and below-street-level shops are functioning properly.

Merchants were advised to take precautionary measures when storing goods in warehouses and basements. Contractors and construction site owners were urged to secure building materials to prevent them from being swept away, which could lead to blocked drainage systems.
