New york: Minister of Social Development Wafaa Bani Mustafa engaged in discussions with international officials during the 70th session of the Commission on the Status of Women at UN headquarters. These meetings focused on enhancing cooperation in women's empowerment.
According to Jordan News Agency, Bani Mustafa, who chairs the Ministerial Committee for Women's Empowerment, conferred with European Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management, Hadja Lahbib. Their discussions centered on expanding partnerships to promote women's participation in the labor market, especially in promising sectors, and exchanging international experiences to enhance women's economic and political involvement.
Lahbib acknowledged Jordan's humanitarian support for occupied Gaza and the West Bank, noting Jordan's provision of medical treatment for children from Gaza in Jordanian hospitals. She also highlighted the importance of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and commended Jordan's longstanding role in hosting refugees, particularly from Syria.
Bani Mustafa also met with Cyprus Commissioner for Gender Equality, Iosifina Antoniou Christodoulou, to discuss collaboration and the exchange of expertise on gender equality policies and programs. Additionally, she held talks with Canada's Minister of Women, Gender Equality and Small Business and Tourism, Rechie Valdez, focusing on supporting women's economic participation, entrepreneurship, and small businesses.
Bani Mustafa emphasized Jordan's commitment to strengthening international partnerships and sharing expertise with states and international organizations to advance women's empowerment and their role in development.
