King Abdullah II and Uzbekistan President Mirziyoyev Forge Stronger Bilateral Ties in Samarkand

Samarkand: His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan and Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a significant meeting in Samarkand, focusing on enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation across multiple fields. The discussions were attended by key figures, including His Royal Highness Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, the King’s chief adviser for religious and cultural affairs and personal envoy.

According to Jordan News Agency, the talks underscored the commitment to strengthening the 32-year-old diplomatic ties between Jordan and Uzbekistan. King Abdullah expressed gratitude for the hospitality extended by President Mirziyoyev, highlighting the robust political relations between the two nations. He emphasized the importance of seizing opportunities in the economic and military sectors, marking this visit as a new chapter in their bilateral relations.

President Mirziyoyev welcomed King Abdullah’s visit, acknowledging it as a testament to the King’s respect for Uzbekistan’s heritage and diversity. He commended King Abdullah’s dedication to interfaith dialogue and stability in the Middle East, recognizing him as a leading figure in the Muslim world. Mirziyoyev also praised Jordan’s development trajectory under the King’s leadership, noting the strategic alignment between Jordan’s Economic Modernisation Vision and Uzbekistan’s 2030 Vision.

The talks also addressed pressing issues in the Middle East. King Abdullah called for international efforts to de-escalate tensions, particularly emphasizing the need for peace in Gaza and the protection of holy sites in Jerusalem. He reiterated Jordan’s stance against any attempts to annex or occupy land in Gaza or the West Bank.

The meeting concluded with the signing of nine agreements, two cooperation protocols, and three memorandums of understanding. These agreements span various sectors, including higher education, tourism, investment, and agriculture, further cementing the cooperative framework between the two nations.

In recognition of President Mirziyoyev’s contributions to bilateral relations, King Abdullah awarded him the Order of the Bejewelled Grand Cordon of Al Nahda. King Abdullah also explored an exhibition showcasing Uzbekistan’s diverse manufacturing capabilities.

The visit included cultural engagements, with King Abdullah touring notable sites in Samarkand, reflecting on the city’s rich historical and cultural significance.
