Aqaba: The Jordan Phosphate Mines Company (JPMC) and the Arab Potash Company (APC) have signed an agreement to establish an integrated industrial complex in the Aqaba Special Economic Zone and Sheidiya. This complex will focus on the production of phosphoric acid, pure phosphoric acid, and specialized fertilizers.
According to Jordan News Agency, the agreement was signed by JPMC Chairman of the Board Mohammad Thneibat, APC Chairman of the Board Shehadeh Abu Hdeib, and the Chief Executive Officers of both companies, Abdul Wahab Ruwad and Maan Nsour. In a joint statement, the companies highlighted that the project reflects their commitment to economic modernization goals, particularly in the sectors of mining, chemicals, and fertilizers. The complex represents a significant development, positioning Jordan as a leading producer and exporter of specialized fertilizers and demonstrating a new level of industrial integration between national companies.
The project aims to establish advanced manufacturing industries by producing pure phosphoric acid, a crucial component in the production of phosphate and potassium-based fertilizers. Additionally, phosphoric acid is used in the food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries, enabling Jordan to access specialized markets and support future industrial expansion.
The companies emphasized that this initiative signifies a shift toward value-added investment in natural resources, focusing on specialized production. It is a strategic move to build an advanced industrial base that boosts exports and enhances Jordan’s regional and global position in the specialized fertilizer market. They stated that the project offers a successful model of a productive economy built on the integration of national resources with industrial expertise, unlocking new opportunities for downstream manufacturing.
The industrial complex aligns with national objectives to diversify industrial exports and strengthen Jordan’s competitiveness in global supply chains. It also addresses global changes in agriculture and food security, establishing Jordan as a reliable supplier of specialized fertilizers. The project is expected to generate employment opportunities and initiate training programs for Jordanian professionals in fields such as engineering, chemical industries, operations management, and quality control. These efforts aim to enhance local talent capabilities and promote a culture of advanced manufacturing.
